#108 - Red Nots Recap, Halsey & Turnstile, Plant Keeps Digging

For the past four years, Greg has been playing the role of John Frusciante (“Non Frusciante”) in the Red Not Chili Peppers. This past weekend, they played at the Harrisburg Midtown Arts Center & Nick drove up to check out the show. The segment begins and ends with a retelling of the evening’s adventures, with a solid “what it’s like playing in a tribute band” discussion smack in the middle.

Greg brings us two new albums to check out this week. Halsey created a tight & unsettling vibe on “If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power”, produced by Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross. Halsey delivers an albums worth of powerful songs and it’s particularly worth a listen if you like what Reznor & Ross do with most of the music they touch. Meanwhile, Baltimore’s Turnstile deliver a perfect end-of-the-summer bright and heavy rock album with “Glow On”. Greg’s particularly excited about this album and we discuss the bands rise in ranks alongside Power Trip & Code Orange.

Jay, joining us from his vacation in Ocean City, wants to talk about Robert Plant. In the years since Led Zeppelin broke up, Plant has produced 11 solo albums. Jay recently decided to give some a try and was immediately impressed by the quality of the songwriting. The experience has left him inspired by Plant’s burning desire to rediscover himself in his music and constantly rethink his sound. It’s a great conversation.
