#109 - Honest Lee & Growroom Productions' Cure For Pain

This week we’re joined by Mylie (Honest Lee) Durham IV. Lee is a Maryland native, a drummer (formerly of Funk Ark with Greg), and co-founder of Growroom Productions. He’s here to talk about his latest project, a song-for-song cover of Morphine’s 1993 “Cure For Pain” in its entirety. We begin the discussion with the original album and the unique and full sound Morphine were able to achieve with only drums, a sax, and a two-string bass. With such sparse instrumentation the album relies heavily on the quality of the songwriting, which is incredible.

On and off over the past 8 years, Lee has played with the idea of recreating the album. Faced with a global pandemic and a recently completed backyard studio, he got to work soliciting tracks from his musician friends and acquaintances & it’s finally complete! A song-for-song cover of the classic album, featuring a handful of DC's most prestigious acts, luminaries from the Growroom Galaxy, and one of NYC's most eccentric bandleaders. It’s worth checking out & you can buy it here!
