#181 - A.I. or Real Guy? | Ginny Redington Dawes | Weigh-In with Wayan

Nick kicks things off this week with a brand new game! With the arrival of technologies like Chatbot GPT, a predictive language engine that’s scaring as many people as it’s impressing, songwriters like Nick Cave have been responding, uh…strongly (you can read his post here). Cave claims the attempt to emulate his writing is atrocious, but is it? Introducing A.I. or Real Guy? Contestants are presented with an artist and 4 lines from a song verse and have to decide whether it was written by A.I. or a real guy?

Song: Billy Cobham - “Red Baron”

Jay tells us about the American songwriter Ginny Redington Dawes who died on New Years Eve at the age of 77. She is best known for the commercial jingles she wrote for top brands in the 70’s & 80’s, including McDonald’s & Coke. We don’t talk a lot about music and advertising, but it felt right doing so for the loss of an accomplished master.

Song: Scott Tournet - “Fever”

Greg decided it was time to hear from our old friend Wayan about some of the latest stories we’ve been discussing. We touch on David Crosby, Jeff Beck, a recent Red Nots show in Portland, and also Ryan Adams. We love having him on and he never disappoints!

Song: Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - “Deja Vu”
