#132 - “Viral or Eyeroll”: Halftime (Music) History | More on Spotify (cont.) | Red Nots in Florida
Jay is guest hosting “Viral or Eyeroll” (A Greg Loman Production) today and the topic is Halftime Music History! Greg has been running this game since day 1, but it’s his first time out on the field today. Will it matter? Meanwhile, Nick makes his fifth appearance as a contestant today but, for the audio listeners, is noticeably grayer than when he first played the game. Is he starting to slow down? You’ll have to listen to find out!
Song: Dr. Dre - “Nuthin’ But A ‘G’ Thang”
Nick brings us a story from Rolling Stone about the major labels reluctance to participate in the conversation regarding Neil Young’s PR nightmare-of-a-gift to Spotify. It turns out Sony & UMG each hold about 3% ownership in Spotify. So the two largest music record labels have a significant investment stake in Spotify; the primary streaming service that artists have been begging to increase their pay-per-listen rate. This was known but apparently not often discussed, so we discuss it.
Song: Spoon - “The Hardest Cut”
Greg catches us up on 8-shows-in-9-day tour of Florida with the Red Not Chili Peppers. Tons of fun stories, interesting landmarks along the way & the superior value a band gets playing live shows over practicing. There’s always something interesting on the road!
Song: Meshuggah - “The Abysmal Eye”
