#365 - 8bit | Three for Thursday | Heard It Through the GREGvine
Upon exploring a random Gamelan station on Apple Music, Jay heard a song that reminded him of a song from the Nintendo Switch game, Mario Odyssey. That got him thinking about other video game music that sounds like songs we know and love, so he’s bringing it back a classic segment! This is 8-bit.
Songs:
Gamelan Degung - “Gara Gara Cinta”
Sonic 3 Ice Cap Zone sounds like “Hard Times” by The Jetzons (there maybe a good reason for that)
Nobuo Uematsu - “Dancing Mad, 4th Movement (Final Fantasy VI)”
Nick had a great staycation last week and brings back some songs to share on a Three for Thursday. YHWH Nailgun released a 10-track, eleven minute album that’s somehow weirder than their last, Gong is still being explored, and 50 years ago this week, a little ditty by Herman’s Hermits took the #1 spot on the charts.
Songs:
YHWH Nailgun - “Magazine”
Gong - “Percolations Part I & Part II”
Herman’s Hermits - “I'm Henry VIII, I Am”
This Heard It Through the GREGvine starts off with a detour to Where’s One Tho? Then we learn about Henry Rollins and Ian Mackaye’s mission to resurrect the music of their childhood heroes, The Cramps.
Songs:
Rush - “Limelight”
Black Crowes - “Sting Me”
Rolling Stones - “Start Me Up”
The Cramps - “Goo Goo Muck”
The Cramps - “Human Fly”
Charlie Puth - “Attention (Tiny Desk Concert)”
