#119 - “Heavy Rotation”: Archspire & Idles | 8Bit: RDR2 | Silk Sonic

Greg’s on a metal kick & has some new albums to share at the top of this week’s episode. We’ve got a theme song for these types of situations, so we’re at episode two of “Heavy Rotation”. This time around: Archspire is insane, Idles is dark & Nirvana rocks!

Jay’s ideal working music could be described as “moderately interesting instrumental” and Spotify tossed him “Mountain Banjo” by Rhiannon Gibbons and there was something familiar about the song…so he switches over to Spotify and sees that it’s from the Red Dead Redemption 2 Soundtrack. Boom, just like that and we’re into a new episode of “8Bit”! Rockstar Games takes the music in their games so seriously that they recently created a record label and are dropping music from their label in their own games’ updates. A few years back they engaged Daniel Lanois to compose the music of RDR2 in collaboration with some really talented artists and that’s the topic this round!

Nick is super psyched about Silk Sonic. Bruno Mars & Anderson .Paak went all out to create an authentic funk experience, even enlisting Bootsy Collins as the album’s guide & narrator. Greg quipped that there isn’t a moment in the album where they don’t do exactly what they should have done…which is to say, it is a fun listen, pure and simple!
