#099 - “Rap It Up”: Gift of Gab, Songs Written for Daughters, Music of 1999

Before we kick things off, Jay shares the news about the birth of his daughter, Ava Marie Rossman!

Greg brings us some sad news with the loss of Blackalicious founder and rapper Gift of Gab & he’s decided it’s time to name his frequent hip hop segments. “Rap It Up” features hip hop news or highlights an element of rap that Greg loves and appreciates. We celebrate Gift of Gab’s gift for gab by listening back to a classic track.

Song: Blackalicious - “Alphabet Aerobics”

Jay decided to take this week to explore songs that artists wrote for their son or, particularly in this case, daughter. We go through our favorites and listen to a handful. It’s all in celebration of the arrival of Ava Marie, born last Tuesday, June 22nd. Welcome to the world Ava!

For our ninety-ninth & final 90s episode, Nick brings us the music of 1999. Browsing the charts, it doesn’t look like an impressive year, but 1999 included some very important and influential music (at least to Nick) and we listen to a lot of it.
